Fond du Lac woman who died in head-on crash with box truck on Lakeshore Drive named

Update: Sherryl Lynch, 61, of Fond du Lac, was identified by Fond du Lac County Sheriff's Office July 9 as the woman who died in the crash.

FRIENDSHIP – A 61-year-old Fond du Lac woman has died after the SUV she was driving crossed the center line and collided head-on with a box truck on Lakeshore Drive Monday afternoon.

Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release several 911 calls were received reporting the crash on Lakeshore Drive near Subway Road in town of Friendship around 1 p.m. July 8.

Initial reports indicated two vehicles were involved, including a 25-foot box truck and an SUV.

Deputies from the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office along with Wisconsin State Patrol, North Fond du Lac Police Department, North Fond du Lac Ambulance/Fire Department, Van Dyne Fire Department and Van Dyne First Responders all responded to the scene.

The sheriff’s office said initial investigation showed the SUV was traveling north on Lakeshore Drive when it crossed the center line and struck a southbound box truck head on.

After impact, both vehicles came to rest in the west ditch, the sheriff’s office said.

The box truck was operated by 51-year-old Appleton man, who was treated on scene and released with minor injuries.

The driver of the SUV, 61-year-old Sherryl Lynch of Fond du Lac, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The sheriff’s office said the 51-year-old man was wearing his seatbelt while Lynch was not.

Wisconsin State Patrol troopers and Fond du Lac County Highway Department assisted in closing Lakeshore Drive between Subway Road and Kinker Road for approximately four hours Monday while the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office Reconstruction Team and Wisconsin State Patrol investigated the crash.
