Ford recalls more than 550,000 F-150 pickup trucks due to transmission issues

Ford is recalling more than 550,000 F-150 pickup trucks because of transmission issues, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

The recall covers 552,188 2014 F-150 vehicles due to a loss of signal between the transmission output shaft speed sensor and the powertrain control module causing the truck to downshift into first gear no matter the vehicle's speed, according to the NHTSA. The unexpected downshifting may cause the driver to lose control of the vehicle and increase the risk of an accident.

Dealers will update the powertrain control module software for free. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed July 1. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 24S37.
