Forecast: Severe storms prompt Pinpoint Weather Alert Day

DENVER (KDVR) — A Pinpoint Weather Alert Day has been issued for the metro area and along the eastern plains ahead of strong to severe thunderstorms.

The primary threat in the metro area will be hail and damaging wind gusts, meanwhile, the plains could see hail up to 2+ inches in diameter along with an isolated tornado or two.

Weather today: Sunny morning with afternoon storms

We will kick off this morning with sunshine ahead of a very active weather day in Denver and across the plains. Temperatures start out in the upper 50s and lower 60s and will rise into the upper 70s and lower 80s.

Storms in the metro area start around 1 p.m. and last until around 4 p.m. with the highest risks being hail and gusty winds. Make sure to take precautions in the first half of the day.

Meanwhile, the plains are under a slight and enhanced risk for severe weather with the potential for hail up to 2″ in diameter and isolated tornadoes. The timing of these is between 2 to 7 p.m.

Weather tonight: Lingering showers and storms, then clearing

Showers and storms will linger through the late evening hours before the skies clear out. Overnight low temperatures drop into the upper 50s and lower 60s.

Looking ahead: More storm chances before a warm-up

Sunday will start with sunshine. The chance of thunderstorms increases by the late afternoon and evening hours, some of which could be strong to severe.

Again, the main concern for any thunderstorms that become severe will be hail and damaging wind gusts. Temperatures will again be cooler but seasonal, reaching 80 degrees.

The chance for showers and thunderstorms is in the forecast again on Monday and Tuesday, with temperatures on both days climbing from a low in the mid-50s to a high around 80 degrees.

Drier and warmer weather moves in for the second half of the workweek with highs in the 90s on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.
