Former Hernando school resource officer in custody, charged with rape: MBI investigating
A former Hernando Police school-resource officer is in custody for allegations of sexual assault after being placed on administrative leave.
Hosie Porter turned himself in to law enforcement officials on Monday morning on charges of sexual battery and rape. Porter worked as a school resource officer with the Hernando Police Department until the attack was reported last week.
DeSoto County DA Matthew Barton said the accusation involved an adult and that no children were harmed. It is unclear where the incident occurred. Barton said the charges were the result of a "detailed and thorough" collaborative investigation with the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation.
Captain Kyle Hodge released a statement Monday afternoon on behalf of HPD.
"On Tuesday, September 24th, 2024, the Hernando Police Department was made aware of an allegation made against one of our officers for an assault that took place while on-duty," the statement read. "The information was immediately passed along to the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation."
HPD said Porter was placed on administrative leave, but resigned the day of his arrest.
