BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — Former Louisiana Senator Julie Quinn-Summerville announces she is running for Louisiana Public Service Commissioner for District 2.

In a release from Quinn-Summerville’s office, she is seeking the vacated position after former commissioner Craig Greene announced he will not seek reelection for the next term.

Quinn-Summerville is a former school board member, state senator and 2016 alternate delegate to elect Donald Trump for president.

She has gained endorsements for the open seat from former Louisiana Republican Party Chairmen Roger Villere and Louis Gurvich.

Before becoming a state senator, Quinn-Summerville was elected to the Jefferson Parish School Board in 2001 and 2003. After the school board, she was elected as a Louisiana senator in 2005 and 2007 to represent New Orleans and a four parish-area. She chaired the judiciary committee, which manages the needs of judges and courthouses, and was named Legislator of the Year, according to a release.

“The next Public Service Commissioner will either tip the scales to more conservative or liberal,” said Quinn-Summerville. “I am a fiscal conservative who believes the federal government under Joe Biden has overreached and is causing corporations, especially utility companies, to make unnecessary infrastructure modifications that are being passed on to consumers. We need to stand strong against unfunded mandates. We need to do what is in the best interest of today’s consumers. We can, and we will return to the lowest utility rates in the nation under the right leadership. That’s why I’m running.”

The primary election is scheduled for Nov. 5 and the Congressional election is on Dec. 7.
