Guy Rosenschein, 70, was arrested on July 17 on two counts of rape and one count of first-degree sexual assault.

A heavily redacted affidavit filed in January 2019 offers little details on the case but does mention there was at least one juvenile victim allegedly involved.

Court records show the alleged incidents took place in 2002 and 2006 and the case was investigated by the Springdale Police Department.

Rosenschein worked as a pediatric surgeon and pediatric urologist from approximately 2001 to 2012.

The warrant for Rosenschein’s arrest was filed on February 1, 2019.

Rosenschein filed a hand-written motion to dismiss pro se on July 5 and requested “oral arguments as an opportunity to assist the court in reaching an informed and fair decision.” Rosenschein wanted to dismiss the case he had yet to be arrested for.

He said while writing the motion, he was detained at a federal correctional institution in Pekin, Illinois.

The arrest warrant was served on July 17 and Rosenschein pleaded not guilty on July 22.

His trial date has been set for August 12.

This is not the first time Rosenschein has been accused of child sex crimes.

Rosenschein’s criminal history

In 2016, a complaint was filed in New Mexico federal court accusing Rosenschein of distributing and possessing child pornography.

An affidavit said an online service called Chatstep.com reported numerous instances of Rosenschein posting child porn in 2016.

The username was traced to Rosenschein’s IP address, according to the Associated Press.

A search warrant was executed on November 8, 2016, by the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office, Rosenschein reportedly ran to his bedroom and armed himself. He eventually surrendered, according to the affidavit.

A 16-year-old whom Rosenschein claimed was his nephew was in the bedroom at the time of the search.

A thumb drive was seized on the scene along with other pieces of evidence. The thumb drive was found to have multiple images of child porn downloaded onto it.

Rosenschein was later interviewed and told officers he was a pediatric surgeon at Presbyterian Hospital, specializing in urology, and had lived in Albuquerque for three years.

He then said the 16-year-old found in the home was a former patient he had operated on at least two times. Rosenschein claimed the teen would often spend the night at his home and that the two did not have a sexual relationship.

Rosenschein said he owned a helicopter and two planes and would fly the teen to Nevada, Florida and Arkansas for trips.

In 2018, an indictment was filed in the case accusing Rosenschein of nine counts of distributing child pornography and six counts of possessing child pornography.

Those charges were related to incidents that took place between 2010 and 2016. He pleaded not guilty to all charges.

Rosenschein took a plea agreement in 2021 and pleaded guilty to eight charges, one count of possessing child pornography and seven counts of distributing child pornography. He was sentenced on January 2023 to more than 17 years in federal prison.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of New Mexico said in a news release from the day of Rosenschein’s sentencing that the FBI learned a hidden room was found after the initial search was done.

The room was reportedly behind a fake wall inside a closet under a staircase and was already in the house when Rosenschein purchased it, according to the release. A second search warrant was later executed and two safes were found in the hidden room.

Additional child porn was found in one of the safes, the release said.

During the investigation, authorities found nearly 20,000 images and 2,100 videos of child porn.

Rosenschein worked as a pediatric surgeon in Arkansas, Missouri and New York and would befriend young male patients before sexually abusing them, according to the release.

“The investigation to date has revealed three alleged victims of sexual abuse committed by Rosenschein and charges are pending in Arkansas in association with two of these alleged victims,” the release said.
