Former President Bill Clinton campaigns in Oshkosh for Harris-Walz ticket and ‘my grandchildren’s future’

OSHKOSH, Wis. (WFRV) – As the days wind down until election day, former President Bill Clinton was sent to the exact city that Harris-Walz campaign leaders would send him to.

“If you want me to help, send me where I’m most comfortable,” Clinton said. “Send me to the small towns, send me to the middle sized towns, send me to the places where national politics is most often ignored.”

The 78-year-old touted Vice President Kamala Harris’ plans to make the economy and healthcare more affordable while warning what a second term for former President Donald Trump would mean for the country.

“One guy with a MAGA cap came up and threw his arm around me and said ‘you were the last good Democrat,’” Clinton said of a recent conversation. “And I said ‘why do you think that’ and he said ‘because you balanced the budget two or three times.’ And I said ‘well why are you for Trump, he’s going to blow up the deficit?’”

At the Democratic Party of Winnebago County’s field office, Clinton says that he is on the campaign trail for his three grandchildren.

“I’m not running for anything. Except my grandchildren’s future,” he said. “I want my 10-year-old granddaughter to grow up with the rights her mother had.”

In addition to having better ideas about policy, Clinton says that Harris’ consideration of different perspectives is one of the most important characteristics separating her from President Trump.

“You hire people to tell you they respectfully disagree,” he said.
