Former Sunbury police chief pled guilty, sentenced for stealing money

SUNBURY, NORTHUMBERLAND COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A former chief of police in Northumberland County was sentenced Tuesday after admitting to stealing money.

Brad Hare pled guilty to stealing money from the American Hose Company Social Hall in Sunbury.

There were suspicions of money being stolen last August, so surveillance cameras were installed which caught Hare stealing money acquired through video gaming systems.

The total amount stolen was just under $7,000 over a period of time.

Hare was sentenced Tuesday to three years probation, which includes nine months of house arrest.

“I really did let the community down. I let my friends, a lot of my family down, so, I’ve met a lot of you people throughout all this and everybody’s always been fair to me and I just say to anybody that has an addiction or alcohol problem, ya know, get help,” Hare said.

“What are you most concerned about the sentencing? What is gonna be the most difficult thing?” 28/22 News Reporter Jason LiVecchi asked.

“There’s gonna be nothing difficult. I’m in a program of recovery and I’ll continue that and just gonna keep moving forward. That’s what I can do,” Hare replied.

Travis Bremgen was sworn in as the new chief of police in Sunbury last December.
