Former UA student accused of sexual assault of another student
A 23-year-old former University of Alabama student was arrested and charged in connection with the reported sexual assault of another student.
Gambill Colvard Gentry was charged with first-degree rape, first-degree sodomy and multiple counts of first-degree voyeurism. Gentry was placed in the Tuscaloosa County Jail, where he is being held without bond, said Capt. Jack Kennedy of The Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit.
Kennedy said a woman reported that she met an acquaintance at a local bar, woke up the next morning with no memory of the night before and suspected that she had been assaulted.
Investigators were able to obtain photo and video evidence that clearly showed that the victim had been sexually assaulted while unconscious, Kennedy said. Gentry was later identified as a suspect.
Both the victim and Gentry were students at the University of Alabama, but Gentry has now been banned from campus, Kennedy said.
Investigators believe that there may be other victims unknown to law enforcement.
The Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit encourages anyone who believes that they may have been a victim to call 205-464-8690.
