Forsyth County deputies involved in shooting deaths of 2 in Banks County

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is investigating the officer-involved shooting deaths Tuesday of two people at a home near Alto, a small city in northern Banks County.

The two people were shot and killed by deputies with the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office, according to a news release from the GBI.

The GBI identified the pair Wednesday afternoon as Joshua Everett Emmett, 45, of Alto, and Meagan Victoria Feaster, 33, of Forsyth County. None of the deputies were wounded during the shooting.

The report shows the shooting occurred at a home on Cedar Drive, a small dead-end road in a neighborhood of mostly mobile homes located south of Alto.

Deputies arrived at the home at about 9:30 a.m. and the shooting occurred about 11:05 a.m., after the deputies entered the home, noted the report.

Forsyth County sheriff's spokesperson Stacie Miller released a report that the deputies were serving a felony arrest warrant to a sex offender who had violated the conditions of his probation. The Georgia Sex Offender Registry identifies Emmett as the sex offender. He was convicted in 2012 of child molestation, sexual battery on a child under 16 and statutory rape.

The relationship between Emmett and Feaster was not explained by the GBI.

Besides the GBI investigation, Miller said the sheriff's office will also conduct an internal investigation.

The GBI reported that Banks County sheriff’s deputies were at the scene to provide support, but they were not involved in the shooting.

An autopsy has been ordered on the deceased, the GBI reported.
