Fox 2 anchor Amy Andrews takes medical leave for depression, anxiety

Fox 2 Detroit morning anchor Amy Andrews posted on social media Sunday afternoon that she has been off the air recently to deal with mental health issues.

"My severe depression and anxiety have returned in full force. I've stepped away from the anchor desk temporarily to battle with all I have so I can come back and spend my mornings with you. Much love always…," the popular Detroit TV journalist revealed on X (formerly Twitter).

In a July 21 reply to a post about her absence that asked if she will "be back on in the morning," Andrews said yes and shared that she was on medical leave.

Andrews has been an advocate for mental health awareness and communicated openly with viewers about her own experiences.

In June 2022, Andrews revealed on X that she was returning to work after several months of battling severe depression and anxiety, thanking those who had supported her.

"I finally had to take a step back and address it so I could move forward. We never know what others are dealing with so always try to be kind and don't ever be ashamed to admit that you may need a little help," she tweeted, as reported by DeadlineDetroit.com.

In 2019, Andrews participated in a charity walk at Detroit's riverfront to spread awareness on the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention and spoke to those gathered about her friend and colleague Jessica Starr, who died by suicide in 2018.

On July 19 of this year, the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention's Michigan Chapter posted on X praising Andrews for being "a longtime supporter of ours, using her platform to elevate our cause and bring hope to so many. Thank you, Amy, for being such a fierce mental health warrior!"

She also is involved in causes like Gleaners Community Food Bank, C.A.T.C.H Children's Charity, Habitat for Humanity, the American Heart Association and and more.

Andrews is an alum of Indiana University, Oakland University and the Specs Howard School of Media Arts. She worked at TV stations in Colorado, Nevada, California and the Flint and Saginaw market before joining Fox 2 Detroit in 2011.
