Fred McGriff, Scott Rolen decide which hats they'll wear in Baseball Hall of Fame

Both Scott Rolen and Fred McGriff will be immortalized in the National Baseball Hall of Fame in July, but which teams will the players represent?

Each player inducted to Cooperstown receives a commemorative plaque to be displayed in the Hall of Fame museum which features the individual's accomplishments as well as their likeness wearing a cap of their choosing.

And we now know which teams the 2023 class will be — and won't be — wearing on their caps.

Rolen will be representing the St. Louis Cardinals, with whom he spent six of his 17 MLB seasons. The standout third basemen actually spent more time with the Philadelphia Phillies but said his plaque featuring a Cardinals cap "accurately represents" his career.

“After reflecting on my 17-year career, and conferring with the Hall of Fame, I have decided on a Cardinals logo for my Hall of Fame plaque,” Rolen said in a press release. “I believe this decision accurately represents a pivotal portion of my career based on our teams’ successes in St. Louis."

McGriff, who played for six different teams in 19 years decided to be depicted with a blank cap.

“Fifteen of my 19 major league seasons were split, playing half a decade with the Blue Jays, Braves and Devil Rays,” McGriff said in the release. “At each stop, I was lucky to be a part of memorable teams and to play in front of some of the best fans in baseball. In discussing my career with the Hall of Fame, we decided that with no logo on my plaque, I can equally represent these cities and the incredible fans in Toronto, where I got my start, Atlanta, where we won the World Series, and my hometown of Tampa Bay, as well as my time in San Diego."

The plaques will be unveiled to the public immediately before each player's July 23 induction ceremony.

Rolen was the lone player elected via the Baseball Writers Association of America on the 2023 ballot. McGriff was elected by the Contemporary Baseball Era player ballot.
