Free student physicals, dog vaccine clinic among events Saturday

Several events are happening on Saturday, as well as two free community clinics of note for students and pets.

TTUHSC to offer free physicals at Eastridge Mission Center Back-to-School Event

Faculty, residents and medical students from the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center (TTUHSC) School of Medicine Department of Family and Community Medicine will offer free athletic and band physicals to middle and high school students during the annual Eastridge Mission Center (EMC) Back-to-School Outreach.

The free clinic is being held Saturday, July 27, from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Eastridge Mission Center, located at 1300 Evergreen St. in Amarillo.

Children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. In addition to physicals, EMC will give away gently-used clothes and shoes for children and teenagers.

Free Dog Vaccine Clinic set for Saturday

The City of Amarillo Animal Management and Welfare Department (AAMW) is joining with the BISSELL Pet Foundation and the Texas Tech University School of Veterinary Medicine for a free vaccine clinic for dogs.

The clinic is scheduled to run from noon to 3 p.m. on Saturday, July 27 at the Pavilion at the Santa Fe Depot. The clinic is for dogs only.

“The Amarillo Animal Management and Welfare Department is extremely grateful for the cooperation of BISSELL Pet Foundation and the Texas Tech School of Veterinary Medicine for helping provide this free clinic for the community of Amarillo,” said AAMW Director Victoria Medley. “Without their participation, this clinic would not be possible.”

The vaccine clinic will be on a first-come, first-served basis. Supplies are limited. Dogs must be on a leash at all times - even when being carried or held.

Onsite parking is available with additional parking at the Amarillo Civic Center; those attending the clinic should not use the parking lot for the Amarillo Ice Ranch. Owners seeking a booster shot for pets are encouraged – but not required - to bring shot records.

For more information, call AAMW at (806) 378-9032. Also for more information contact City of Amarillo Media Relations Manager Dave Henry at (806) 378-5219 or by email at David.Henry@amarillo.gov.
