Fundraising campaign by Bill and Lisa Ford for youth nonprofits exceeds goal

An effort by Ford Motor Co. Executive Chair Bill Ford and his wife, Lisa Ford, to raise a minimum $10 million by the end of June to help youth nonprofits has vastly exceeded its original goal.

The MCS Children’s Endowment Initiative announced Monday that thanks to the community's generosity, over $19 million was raised. The funds will go toward establishing permanent endowments for 10 youth-serving nonprofits in metro Detroit.

The fundraising campaign was created by the Fords to mark the grand reopening of Michigan Central Station. It is also a partnership with Detroit-based The Children's Foundation, which will hold the new endowments for the 10 beneficiary organizations.

"Today, we take the next step toward implementing a different approach to philanthropy, creating a more equitable landscape for 10 youth-serving organizations,” Andrew Stein, CEO of the Children’s Foundation, said in a statement. “We are excited to start accepting applications and beginning the process to ensure the permanence of these organizations that serve children in our community.”
