The Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission will discuss the application timeline of a new casino in Cedar Rapids in a Friday morning meeting.

The Linn County Gaming Association and its casino operator partner Peninsula Pacific Entertainment submitted an application shortly after Iowa’s two-year moratorium on new gaming licenses ended at the beginning of July.

The pair will be ready to submit their application by the end of the month, according to Doug Gross, who spoke at the Monday meeting on behalf of the development group and Linn County Gaming Association.

The application has been in the works since 2022, when Cedar Rapids officials planned a casino called “Cedar Crossings” before state lawmakers passed the gaming license moratorium.

State lawmakers had the option to extend the two-year moratorium but chose not to.

The commission, which oversees the 19 active Iowa casinos, decided Monday to find a vendor to conduct a market study about the potential impact of a Linn County casino on the entire Iowa casino industry.

Friday’s meeting is open to the public and will be held virtually starting at 8:30 a.m. The commission will post details on how to watch the meeting on its website before Friday.
