Gang member accused of Canton home invasion gets long prison term. The judge's sentence

BOSTON – A Brockton man accused of participating in a Canton home invasion was sentenced to more than 20 years in prison Monday for his role in Cameron Street, a violent Boston gang, the U.S. attorney's office said.

Daronde "Freeze" Bethea, 32, was sentenced by U.S. Senior District Court Judge William G. Young to 250 months in prison and three years of supervised release.

Bethea pleaded guilty in February to conspiracy to participate in a racketeering enterprise, conspiracy to interfere with commerce by force or violence and being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition.

He tried to kill a rival gang member in Dorchester in June 2018, prosecutors said. Bethea shot him multiple times as he got into his car, they said.

Bethea was also involved in two violent home invasion robberies – in November 2017 in Dorchester and July 2018 in Canton, authorities said.

As police chased him after the Canton incident, a police cruiser camera captured him in possession of a loaded handgun that was later recovered, authorities said.

The agencies assisting in the investigation included the Canton, Quincy, Brockton, Randolph, Stoughton and state police departments and the Norfolk and Plymouth district attorney's offices.
