Garfield Park pool to remain closed at least through end of the month

The Garfield Park Aquatic Center will be closed at least through the end of July as Indy Parks crews work on fixing a broken pipe.

Parks crews filled the pool with no identified problems on May 15th. However, two weeks later and a few days before pools were scheduled to open for the season, crews noticed the pool losing water and determined the issue to be a broken pipe underneath the pool basin, according to Indy Parks spokesperson Alex Cortwright.

Crews hope to have the issue fixed and to be able test the pool at the end of the month if there are no weather-associated delays, Cortwright said.

The public pools closest to Garfield Park are Willard Park Aquatic Center and Splash Pad, and Rhodius Park Pool.

Indy Parks pools are open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday, 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Fridays, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturdays and noon to 6 p.m. on Sundays.

Christian Park’s splash pad, about 15 minutes away from Garfield Park by car, is open during regular park hours. Tyler Spence is a Pulliam Fellow primarily covering business. He can be contacted at jspence@gannett.com
