Gary man charged with child molesting

A Gary man was charged Tuesday after he sexually abused a young girl, charges allege.

Marco Samuel Pilatuna Chafla, 41, was charged with a half-dozen felonies, including Level 1 felony child molesting, two counts of Level 4 felony sexual misconduct with a minor, and one count of Level 6 felony possession of child pornography.

He is currently in custody. A bail review hearing is set for Thursday.

A woman called Gary Police on July 15. After Pilatuna borrowed her phone, the woman said she found a video of her child performing a sex act on him.

The victim said it happened the prior day and “multiple times” in the past. Over four years, he also raped the victim repeatedly, according to the affidavit.

Investigators wrote an “unknown person” texted the child both “threatening” her and “telling her what sexual positions to perform,” court records state.

The child was “special needs,” the mother said, and was afraid to come forward, due to the texts she was getting.

The case is before Judge Gina Jones.
