Gas prices may be down, but probably not for long. Here's why

Gas prices in Arizona have been decreasing, but experts warn that this trend may not last.

Over the past week, the average gas price in Arizona has decreased by four cents. Arizona's current average gas price is $3.57, which is seven cents above the national average of $3.50.

As people nationwide prepare for holiday travel in the upcoming week, gas prices are expected to remain around the current average.

Julian Paredes, AAA spokesperson for Arizona, warns that local prices will most likely increase in the weeks following the Fourth of July.

"There's more reason to believe gas prices are going to start heading upward, slowly," said Paredes. "It's not to say that gas will be $4 a gallon anytime soon, but you can expect a few cents increase here and there."

AAA data reported that in June of 2023 Arizona's average gas price was nearly $4 per gallon, today the average is significantly lower at $3.57 per gallon.

Paredes provided that the nation's gas prices are reflective of the price of oil. Recently, the price of oil has risen to $80 per barrel.
