GOP Illinois Congressional candidate puts border security above overall immigration reform

Host Jim Nieldelman focuses on a hotly contested congressional race in Illinois on the November ballot. That race is for the Illinois 17th District between incumbent Democrat Eric Sorensen and Republican Joe McGraw.

A quick check of their campaign finances shows Sorensen far ahead with more than $2.5 million. McGraw has about $475 thousand.

We will get to know Joe McGraw a little better today. He lives in Rockford, got a bachelor’s degree from the University of Illinois and his law degree from Northern Illinois University. He worked as a prosecutor and private attorney before spending 20 years as a presiding criminal judge.

Recent history tells us the race for the Illinois 17th Congressional District will be close. However, a Democrat has won the last six elections. One man who wants to change that trend is Joe McGraw. He joins host Jim Niedelman for a conversation.

“Everything’s changed since two years ago; everything’s changed since four years ago,” McGraw said.
