Got plans in Seattle this weekend? Expect heavy delays traveling from Pierce County
South Sound residents heading to Seattle this weekend be warned: There could be tons of traffic.
Seattle-bound travelers driving north on Interstate 5 should give themselves ample time to get there, according to a post on X (Twitter) by the Washington State Department of Transportation’s account for traffic in King and Snohomish counties.
It’s also a good idea to consider taking public transit or alternate routes.
Northbound I-5 along Boeing Field will be reduced to two lanes while road crews work on replacing old expansion joints, per the X post.
“We need good weather, and this weekend certainly qualifies,” WSDOT Traffic added.
The work is happening on a weekend when several big events hit the Emerald City, including the Sounders FC game at Lumen Field, Mariners games at T-Mobile Park and the Capitol Hill Block Party music fest.
This weekend’s expansion joint-replacement work over Military Road is part of the department’s Revive I-5 preservation project, according to a news release. It started the night of Friday, July 19 and will last until 5 a.m. Monday, July 22.
