TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — Former President Donald Trump was found guilty on all 34 counts in his hush money trial on Thursday afternoon.

Trump became the first former U.S. President to be convicted of felony crimes, specifically for falsifying business records to illegally influence the presidential election in 2016.

‘Our whole country is being rigged right now’: Trump reacts to guilty verdict

As news of the verdict broke, many politicians chimed in, reacting to the results.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis released a statement on X, formerly known as Twitter, just moments after the verdict was read.

“Today’s verdict represents the culmination of a legal process that has been bent to the political will of the actors involved: a leftist prosecutor, a partisan judge and a jury reflective of one of the most liberal enclaves in America—all in an effort to ‘get’ Donald Trump

That this case—involving alleged misdemeanor business records violations from nearly a decade ago—was even brought is a testament to the political debasement of the justice system in places like New York City. This is especially true considering this same district attorney routinely excuses criminal conduct in a way that has endangered law-abiding citizens in his jurisdiction.

It is often said that no one is above the law, but it is also true that no one is below the law. If the defendant were not Donald Trump, this case would never have been brought, the judge would have never issued similar rulings, and the jury would have never returned a guilty verdict.

In America, the rule of law should be applied in a dispassionate, even-handed manner, not become captive to the political agenda of some kangaroo court.”

Meanwhile, Trump’s son, Donald Trump Jr., released his own, but much shorter statement, on the platform.

“Such bull****.”

Immediately following the verdict, Trump spoke to reporters in Manhattan outside the courthouse.

“Our whole country is being rigged right now. This was done by the Biden administration in order to wound or hurt an opponent, a political opponent.”

Here’s when Donald Trump is set to be sentenced

He followed the statement up by saying he’ll continue to fight, before claiming that the country is a “divided mess.”

So what’s next?

Trump’s sentencing will begin on July 11 at 10 a.m., however, his legal team is expected to try to push he date back as he continues to pursue re-election this November.
