Gov. Hochul requests federal help for people impacted by Tropical Storm Debby
ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) – Gov. Kathy Hochul requested a Major Disaster Declaration from President Biden Saturday. It’s an effort to help folks in communities impacted by Tropical Storm Debby Aug. 8 through Aug. 10.
In our region, Steuben, Ontario and Yates counties were hit the hardest by floods as a result of the storm. Damages, though, were widespread – seen in communities across New York State.
If Gov. Hochul has her way, federal funding from FEMA’S Public Assistance Program would be available for people in Allegany, Broome, Delaware, Essex, Franklin, Jefferson, Ontario, Steuben, St. Lawrence and Yates Counties. The money would be intended for the removal of debris, repairs and emergency protective measures.

“We must provide relief to areas impacted by the storm, and my administration will take every measure necessary to ensure their speedy and full recovery,” Hochul said.
In the aftermath of the storm, Hochul made $50 thousand grants available to homeowners in Allegany, Delaware, Franklin, Steuben and St. Lawrence Counties.
