CARLISLE, Pa. (WHTM)– Governor Shapiro spoke to hundreds of people in Carlisle on Saturday at a campaign event to support the Harris campaign, saying that Democrats have been called to fight for freedom.

Governor Shapiro, who is becoming increasingly more familiar nationwide as a potential candidate for Harris’s vice presidential pick, has strongly advocated for Harris following President Biden dropping out of the race to endorse her.

On Saturday, Shapiro said Democrats have been called to stand up for what’s right and fight for real freedom by electing Harris as the next U.S. president.

“This is an election about real freedom, an election with clear contrasts, and an election that now falls in your hands. Cumberland County, y’all are going to be the center of the political universe,” said Governor Shapiro.

Former President Donald J. Trump won the area by around ten points in the last presidential election. abc27 was on the scene on Saturday, asking local voters what they think about the Democratic party’s sudden change in candidacy.

“When I started to think about Kamala Harris running for president three, four weeks ago before she is, before it even happened, I found myself getting excited, and that surprised me because I was never a fan of hers. I am now super excited about this and who will have for vice president,” said one Camp Hill voter.

Although Shapiro is still the governor of Pennsylvania, he’s looking more and more like a top contender for vice president.
