Grand Forks Police Department to host 'effective communication' training

Jul. 22—GRAND FORKS — On Wednesday evening, July 24, the Grand Forks Police Department will host a discussion about effective police communication techniques, with public input encouraged.

The event will take place from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Alerus Center in Grand Forks, and is free to attend, according to a GFPD Facebook post.

Retired Sgt. Jason Lehman, founder of nonprofit Why'd You Stop Me?, is the keynote speaker. He will be joined by Pastor and WYSM Community Champion Charles Myles.

While effective communication techniques are discussed, controversial police use of force incidents will be analyzed, the post said.

Community members are invited to share their own perspectives about interactions they've had with law enforcement.

"Attendees will be introduced to a unique, best-practice system of 'fairness' offered to police officers in North Dakota," the post said.
