Grand Traverse Band announces 2% allocation recipients

Jul. 5—PESHAWBESTOWN — Several area projects received tribal grant dollars in the latest gambling revenue allocation to local governments.

Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians is providing around $643,166.36 in gaming revenue through its 2% allocation.

Funds go to local governments twice a year for public or nonprofit projects. The tribal council received 45 applicants for this 2% cycle and decided to allocate funds to 31 organizations.

Recipients for the first half of 2024:

* $19,162.50 for Benzie County's Prisoner Housing Contract

* $12,775 for Charlevoix County's Prisoner Housing Contract

* $44,712.50 for Leelanau County's Prisoner Housing Contract

* $15,000 for the Benzie County Board of Commissioners

* $8,925 for Benzie Transportation Authority

* $15,000 for Boyne City Public Schools

* $8,850 to Charlevoix Township

* $25,000 for Charlevoix Township Fire Department

* $15,000 to City of Frankfort

* $7,822.33 to the East Jordan Police Department

* $11,000 for East Jordan Public Schools

* $49,000 for Elk Rapids Public Schools

* $4,300 to Elmwood Township Fire and Rescue

* $5,002.33 to Forest Area Community Schools

* $59,180 for Grand Traverse County Board of Commissioners

* $14,215.75 for Grand Traverse Metro Fire and EMS Authority

* $68,680 to Leelanau County Board of Commissioners

* $13,500 to Leelanau Montessori Public School Academy

* $66,739.89 for Leelanau Township Fire Department

* $20,000 for Northwest Education Services

* $42,692.15 to Northwestern Michigan College

* $9,000 to Star Township

* $20,000 for Suttons Bay-Bingham Fire and Rescue Authority

* $68,000 to Traverse City Area Public Schools

* $14,532.91 for Whitewater Township

* $5,076 for Whitewater Township Fire Department

The next round of 2% funding will be distributed in December.
