Guilford County man caught trafficking guns, including AR-15s, sentenced to 10 years

GREENSBORO, N.C. (WGHP) — A Guilford County man will spend more than 10 years behind bars after he was found guilty of illegal firearms trafficking, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of North Carolina.

Marcus Devon Dalton, 30, pleaded guilty to illegal possession and trafficking of firearms in May of 2024. He was sentenced on Wednesday to 121 months, or 10 years and 1 month, followed by three years of supervised release.

Dalton was charged after an investigation by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Greensboro Police Department. A confidential informant had contacted an ATF agent and said an illegal firearms dealer was supplying firearms and machine gun conversion devices in Greensboro.

The ATF agent worked with the informant to get Dalton to illegally sell 20 firearms, including AR-15s, in a series of controlled purchases from May 2022 to September 2023. The U.S. Attorney’s Office says Dalton was a convicted felon at the time of the sales and could not legally possess firearms.
