(KRON) – A convicted felon was arrested after fleeing from a stolen car, according to the Vallejo Police Department

On Thanksgiving, a man reported to authorities that his 2001 BMW 740 was stolen by an armed, masked suspect near Sonoma Boulevard and Tennessee Street.

Vallejo police officers found the stolen BMW near Springs Road and Oakwood Avenue and conducted a traffic stop. Vallejo PD said the driver leaped out of the moving vehicle and fled on foot. As the suspect was fleeing, police said, he dropped and picked up his gun and fled toward a nearby apartment.

California Highway Patrol’s Air Unit, Solano County Sheriff’s Office and Napa County Sheriff’s Office assisted Vallejo PD to find the suspect.

Authorities located the suspect hiding between a car and a garage. Police used a loudspeaker to speak with the suspect and urge him to surrender. VPD said officers deployed a non-lethal round 40mm round near the suspect after he refused.

The suspect then surrendered. Police recovered the suspect’s firearm, which was not registered to him. Vallejo PD said his gun was secured as evidence.

The owner of the BMW was reunited with his car.

The suspect, who is a convicted felon, has been arrested and booked into the Solona County Jail. The suspect also had two warrants for his arrest in other counties.
