Hagerstown Police confirm investigating homicide from Thursday shooting near downtown
Hagerstown Police confirmed Friday morning they are investigating a homicide from a shooting early Thursday afternoon near downtown Hagerstown, said Ashley Roush, community liaison coordinator for the police department.
The investigation was continuing Friday morning and further details were not being released at that time, Roush said. Police were hoping to issue an update later Friday.
Hagerstown Police have not said whether more than one person was shot Thursday during the incident in the 200 block of East Washington Street.
In an earlier release a couple hours after the shooting, Hagerstown Police said the preliminary investigation "shows that this was a targeted incident."
They were urging anyone with information about the shooting to contact investigators via pdinfo@hagerstownpd.org.

Thursday's shooting east of downtown Hagerstown
Around 2:37 p.m. Thursday, Hagerstown Police posted on their Facebook page that they were investigating "a shooting incident" in the 200 block of East Washington Street that happened around 12:53 p.m.
A neighbor, who was inside his home at the time of the shooting, told The Herald-Mail he heard multiple gunshots and a vehicle speed away, but did not see anything.
Streets around the crime scene were closed for several hours after the shooting due to the investigation.
Some of the investigating officers were seen checking out a black sports car parked near the intersection of Washington and Cannon Avenue.
