Heat advisory, chance of rain in forecast. What does that mean for Miami’s Copa final?

The South Florida summer shake-and-bake weather pattern could rattle residents and soccer fans over the weekend into the coming work week.

The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for Saturday through 6 p.m. due to an expected heat index (the “feels like” combination of heat and humidity) of 106. The agency issues these advisories when the heat index is forecast to hit 105 degrees Fahrenheit for a couple hours of any given day.

The advisory applies to inland, metro and coastal areas of Miami-Dade and Broward counties. The forecast regular high temperature for Saturday and Sunday and most days through Friday is 88, according to the service.

Florida Keys meteorologists are not issuing a heat advisory at this point but highs are expected in the low 90s for the weekend and work week and about a 40% chance of isolated thunderstorms every day.

That’s the bake part. Get ready for periods of thunderstorms, too, every day through at least Friday.

The weather service forecasts scattered thunderstorms through the weekend into the week with the potential for gusty winds, frequent lightning and heavy downpours.

Storm chances are in the 50% range over the weekend, up to 70% Monday night and Tuesday, and remain unsettled through Friday.

What about the Copa America final?

CBS Miami meteorologist KC Sherman, however, has a bit of a brighter outlook noting most of that predicted storm activity should be to the north of South Florida for the start of Sunday’s Copa America soccer final at 8 p.m. at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens.
