HEAT ADVISORY: Northern Utah to see 100-104 degree temperatures Wednesday

SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) — A heat advisory has been issued for the northern valleys of Utah, according to the National Weather Service.

The advisory takes place from noon to 10 p.m. on Wednesday, July 24. Temperatures are expected to reach 100 to 104 degrees through the Wasatch Front, Great Salt Lake Desert and Mountains, Tooele and Rush valleys, Cache Valley, and eastern Juab/Millard counties.

“Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors,” an advisory from the NWS states. “Take extra precautions when outside. Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing. Try to limit strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Take action when you see symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke.”

Dangerous heat is plaguing the West with several warnings and advisories being put in place. The region should see some relief from the extreme heat by Friday, according to the NWS.

Hot temperatures may cause heat illnesses. To reduce the risk of illness during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air-conditioned places.

“Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an emergency! Call 911,” the advisory states.
