‘Held accountable:’ AG charges Ingham County nurse for falsifying medical records

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS)– An Ingham County nurse faces charges of medical records- intentionally placing false information on a chart-health care provider and 4th-degree vulnerable adult abuse, Attorney General Dana Nessel released a statement.

Tessy I. Idusuyi, 49, of East Lansing, was arraigned today in the 55th District Court in Ingham County after falsifying medical records after a resident fell under Idusuyi’s care at a medical facility.

The news release states Idusuyi was a previously Licensed Practical Nurse at the Ingham County Medical Care Facility in Okemos. Idusuyi allegedly pushed a 93-year-old resident in a wheelchair on April 12, 2023. The resident suffered shoulder injuries as a result.

The Sentinel Project began to address vulnerable adults who are abused in residential care settings. Because of a Sentinel Project visit, investigators became aware of this case.

On April 13, 2023, Idusuyi allegedly denied the fall happened during her shift. Still, after the footage was reviewed, it showed Idusuyi prepared an unusual occurrence document with a neurological flow sheet purportedly showing that Idusuyi performed neurological tests on the resident from the night before into the morning of April 13, said Nessel within the news release.

“We rely on nurses to provide reliable and compassionate care,” Nessel said. “The failure to follow basic safety procedures, coupled with attempts to avoid detection once an injury has occurred, is behavior that has consequences. My department is committed to protecting vulnerable adults and ensuring those responsible for neglect are held accountable.”

Idusuyi’s bond is set at $15,000 and is due back in court on July 2, 2024, at 8:30 a.m. for a Probable Cause Conference.

The penalty for medical records-intentionally placing false information on a chart-health care professional is four years in prison and/or a $5,000 fine, and the penalty for a vulnerable adult abuse degree is 1 year in prison and/or a $1,000 fine.
