Here's what Senator Ed Markey said about Biden continuing his campaign for re-election

U.S. Sen. Edward Markey, D-MA, said he would support whatever decision President Joe Biden makes about his political future.

Speaking during a tour of downtown Gardner on Thursday, Markey responded to a reporter's question about reports indicating that several prominent Democrats were calling for Biden to drop out of the presidential race.

"Obviously, this is a decision for the president and his family," Markey said. "He has the votes to be our nominee, but it's his decision. If he wants to go to the convention to receive those votes, then move on to be the Democratic nominee, then I will support the decision which Joe Biden makes."

Asked if he felt Biden, who was reportedly in isolation after contracting COVID, was fit for office, Markey pointed to the success of the president's first three-and-a-half years in the Oval Office.

"We're celebrating part of those victories right here in Gardner, and I think, again, it's a decision for Joe Biden and his family."
