Hiker dies on Bright Angel Trail at Grand Canyon

A hiker was found dead in the Grand Canyon on Sunday morning, and authorities were investigating the death.

The Grand Canyon Regional Communications Center received a report of an unresponsive hiker on the Bright Angel Trail just before 7 a.m. Sunday, the National Park Service said. The hiker was a 41-year-old man.

Bystanders and park service personnel were unsuccessful in their resuscitation attempts.

The hiker was hiking out of the canyon after staying overnight at the Bright Angel Campground near Phantom Ranch.

The park service and the Coconino County Medical Examiner were investigating the death.
