Hiker found unresponsive on Lawn Lake Trail in Rocky Mountain National Park

DENVER (KDVR) — Hikers found an older, female hiker unresponsive on the Lawn Lake Trail Monday morning in Rocky Mountain National Park.

According to Rocky Mountain National Park, park rangers were notified by a satellite communication device of an 80-year-old female hiker who was found unresponsive on the Lawn Lake Trail, about 5 miles from the trailhead.

The hikers who found the woman began life-saving care through CPR. Rocky Mountain National Park search and rescue team members arrived and provided the hiker with further care.

Park rangers used a Colorado Army National Guard helicopter from Buckley Space Force Base to transport the woman to get her off the trail through a hoist operation, according to a release.

The hiker was transferred to Med Evac air ambulance at Upper Beaver Meadows and flown to receive further emergency care. Her condition after receiving further care was unknown on Monday night.

The Lawn Lake Trailhead is in the Horseshoe Park area, about 2 miles past the Fall River entrance station on Highway 34. According to AllTrails, the trail is 12.5 miles long and is considered “challenging” with over 2,600 feet of elevation gain.
