HOA for Paradise Hills holds meeting on flood
GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KREX) — Residents of the Paradise Hills neighborhood in Grand Junction were severely affected by last Thursday’s storm with some residents experiencing damage to their homes.
The Homeowners Association decided to hold a public meeting on the flood.
“I think it’s the design of the ditch. It sounds like the ditch comes down and takes a right-angle turn and that’s where it spills over,” said Leslie Boyd, a resident of Paradise Hills. She has lived in her home for 30 years and says she has never experienced anything like this.
“I’ve been here 30 years, and this one is the worst one we’ve have had.”
Boyd tells WesternSlopeNow that a certain creek might be responsible for fast-rising waters.
“The storm that comes into this area is not what floods, it’s the storm that hits the Bookcliffs. Then about an hour after the storm hits here. About an hour later, that’s when all the water comes down from the desert and brings all the mud.”
Homeowners Association President Austin Erickson talked to WesternSlopeNow after the meeting saying he plans on appearing before Grand Junction City Council to learn who might be responsible for maintaining that creek.
“There’s a bunch of fallen trees and debris that has clogged up as well as silt that has collected over time.”
As for Leslie and her home, the work to repair and replace continues.
“All the bottom cupboards are going to have to be taken out, all the carpeting, all the vinyl… everything has to go.”
