Holly Hills residents frustrated with costly flooding problems
ST. LOUIS – Residents of the Holly Hills neighborhood in south St. Louis are complaining of costly flooding problems; they say they aren’t getting any help from officials.
“The problem is we are having flood issues here on our street and it’s affecting so many different houses and costing us thousands of dollars,” Mallory Young, a resident, said. “The sewers start getting backed up, you can start seeing the water rise (and see it) come up towards the cars. Before you know it, it’s filling your basement.”
According to young, her family had six feet of water in their basement, which almost reached their first floor.

FOX 2 reached out to MSD Spokeswoman Bess McCoy to see if more could be done for residents.
“In some places, there aren’t storm sewers. They were just never built there and in other instances, the storm sewers are too small. We do have a project identified to bring those up to modern standards, but again, with $35 million coming in a year and $700 million worth of work across the region, it’s going to take time,” she said.
McCoy said the Holly Hills neighborhood’s issues don’t rank high enough for the problem to be solved within the next five years, but said they will keep evaluating projects moving forward.
