Homeless Naples man gets life of homicide after authorities found woman dead inside car

A homeless Naples man convicted in the 2020 death of a woman will spend his life behind bars, he learned Monday.

Kenneth Tannassee, 33, was sentenced to life in prison as a releasee reoffender for second-degree murder, the State Attorney's Office said Monday. He also received a life sentence for tampering with a witness.

A Collier County jury convicted him Feb. 22.

According to an incident report from the Collier County Sheriff's Office, around 2:15 p.m. Aug. 21, 2020, Collier County deputies responded to the Home Depot at 1651 Airport Pulling Road S., in Naples, in reference to a woman found dead inside a car.

Authorities said the victim was homeless and living in the car.

According to the affidavit, a witness told deputies Tannassee walked up to him and had blood on him and a weapon consistent with the victim's injuries. The report didn't specify the type of weapon Tannassee was carrying.

Authorities said Tannassee confessed to two nearby witnesses. One of the witnesses told authorities Tannassee was known to the area and stayed at St. Matthew's House, 2001 Airport Pulling Road S.

The sheriff's office said Tannassee denied involvement in the homicide, but did place himself at the location.
