Two shot, one fatally, on River Street in Red Bank; no arrests made

RED BANK - A homicide investigation is underway on River Street, according to authorities.

The Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office released a statement on Twitter Wednesday afternoon saying that a double shooting left one person dead and another injured on the 100 block of the street early Wednesday.

The Major Crimes Bureau of prosecutor's office has joined Red Bank police in the investigation.

The prosecutor's office is urging anyone with information about the crime to call Detective Kayla Santiago of the prosecutor's office at 800-533-7443 or Red Bank Police Detective Mike Zadlock at 732-530-2700.

The office is also asking people to avoid the area.

A post on the borough's Facebook page notified residents Wednesday morning about an increased police presence on the street because of a homicide investigation. The post said a suspect was not yet in custody, but there was not believed to be any danger to the public.

Neighbors congregated around the scene about 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, but River Street was closed off starting at Leighton Avenue, with police tape surrounding the area. The neighborhood is residential, with Red Bank Primary School right down the road. By Wednesday afternoon, the road was reopened to traffic.

Red Bank Police vehicles were blocking the scene in front of the home, and several officers and other law enforcement were seen working in the area.

Police could be seen surrounding a sheet on River Street, blocked by curtains which were later pulled down. Authorities could also be seen talking to neighbors and bystanders.
