Hood River Bridge closed after semi-truck crash causes ‘severe damage’

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) – A crash involving a semi-truck was reported by the Port of Hood River early Thursday afternoon, causing “severe damage” to the Hood River Bridge, officials said.

Port officials said “members of the bridge were struck and impacted by the incident,” but did not specify how many people were hit or whether they suffered any injuries.

“For safety reasons and to allow engineers to thoroughly assess the damage, the bridge will be closed until further notice,” the Port of Portland said in a post on social media. “We apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your understanding as we prioritize safety and work towards a resolution.”

Those traveling in the area are encouraged to use another route. Avoid the area.
