How hot will it get? 'Excessive heat warning' tonight, steamy temps all weekend

Summer on the Eastern Shore continues to grow hotter, sparking heat advisories and opening cooling centers on the Eastern Shore. Here is what the weekend look like according to AccuWeather for Salisbury and Ocean City. Will there be any relief from the heat wave?

The National Weather Service has issued an excessive heat warning for the entire Lower Shore through 8 p.m. tonight.

How hot will it get in Ocean City this weekend?

Friday will see the resort town under a heat advisory at 85 degrees with a 40% chance of rain. A "Real Feel" high, Accuweather's equivalent of the heat index, is 96 degrees. In the evening, it will be 78 degrees with a 24% chance of rain.

Saturday will be 87 degrees as a high and 76 degrees as the low. There will be a 63% chance of rain. and a "Real Feel" high of 97 degrees.

Sunday will return to sunny conditions and reach a high of 84 degrees, with a low of 74 degrees and humid with a 91% chance of rain. The "Real Feel" high will be 90 degrees.

How hot will it get in Salisbury this weekend?

Salisbury will also be under a heat advisory, with a high of 94 degrees and a 40% chance of thunderstorms, with the "Real Feel" at 104 degrees. In the evening, it will be 78 degrees with 24% chance of rain.

Saturday will be 92 degrees with a low of 77 degrees. There will be 28 miles-per-hour wind gusts and a "Real Feel" of 103 degrees.

Sunday will be steamy, with a high of 87 degrees and a low of 74 degrees, with partly cloudy conditions. Sunday's "Real Feel" rises to 95 degrees.

Somerset County residents seeking relief from the intense heat can visit the following locations to stay cool. Please call to confirm library hours.

  • Crisfield Library (100 Collins St.) from 10 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

  • Princess Anne Library (11767 Beechwood St.) from 10 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. Friday and Saturday

Residents should take their own food, beverages, and medications to the cooling centers. Pets are not allowed.Somerset County Emergency Management and the Somerset County Health Department urge area residents to take the heat seriously and take appropriate steps to stay safe.

Tips to beat the heat on scorching Eastern Shore weekend

Here are some tips to stay cool from the Somerset County Health Department:

  • Drink more water than usual

  • Avoid alcohol and beverages with high amounts of sugar

  • Stay in the shade

  • Wear lightweight, light-colored clothing

  • Take cool showers or baths

  • Test your generator to see if it’s ready for use

  • Be sure to have sufficient fuel and supplies in case of a power outage

  • Never use a generator inside your home
