Huge Blast Rocks Crude Oil Tanker Targeted by Houthis in Red Sea

Yemen’s Houthis have released footage showing a huge explosion following their attack on the crude oil tanker Chios Lion on Monday, July 15.

The US Central Command said that the Liberian-flagged and Greek-operated tanker was attacked in the Red Sea with an unmanned surface vehicle.

It added that the attack caused damage to the tanker, but that the crew didn’t request assistance, and that no injuries were reported.

On the same day, the Houthis also attacked the Panama-flagged, Israel-owned tanker vessel Bentley I, but didn’t cause any damage to the vessel or injuries.

According to news reports, the Chios Lion was investigating a potential oil spill in the Red Sea following the attack. Credit: Military Media Yemen via Storyful
