Hurricane Beryl makes landfall in Texas

Hurricane Beryl made landfall shortly after 5 a.m. EST near Matagorda, Texas with maximum sustained winds of 80 mph and life-threatening storm surge. Matagorda is just shy of 100 miles south of Galveston, Texas, and about 100 miles north of Rockport, Texas, where Hurricane Harvey made landfall in 2017.

Heavy rain with considerable flash and urban flooding is expected today as Beryl moves to the north-northeast.

Beryl is expected to weaken to a tropical depression over the next 24 to 36 hours as it slowly makes a turn to the northeast and merges with a frontal boundary. Beryl will continue to weaken into a remnant low as it moves toward the Great Lakes.

Beryl is expected to bring heavy rainfall to area west of the Mississippi River through midweek.
