Hurricane center tracking system, Tropical Storm Leslie in the open Atlantic. What to know Friday

There was a hurricane and a tropical system being tracked in the Atlantic Ocean on Friday by the National Hurricane Center but neither was a problem to land.
As people in Florida and the Southeast continue picking up the pieces and waiting from floodwaters to recede from this week's Hurricane Milton and last month's Hurricane Helene, there was Tropical Storm Leslie far out to sea and a tropical wave near the Cabo Verde islands.

Where is Tropical Storm Leslie?
Location: 1,480 miles west-southwest of the Azores
Maximum sustained winds: 50 mph
Movement: northeast at 17 mph
There are no coastal watches or warnings in effect. Tropical Storm Leslie does not pose a threat to land.
At 5 p.m. ET Friday, Oct. 11, Tropical Storm Leslie was moving toward the northeast near 17 mph and anortheastward to east-northeastward motion with an increase in forward speed was expected through the weekend.
Maximum sustained winds are near 50 mph with higher gusts. Gradual weakening is forecast the next few days with Leslie forecast to become a post-tropical cyclone in a day or so.
Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 105 miles from the center.
Eastern Tropical Atlantic (AL94): As of Friday, Oct. 11, AL94 was near the Cabo Verde Islands. Very recent satellite-derived wind data indicate that winds to tropical storm force are occurring over portions of the Cabo Verde Islands in association with an area of low pressure centered near the southwestern portion of the archipelago.
However, the satellite data showed that the circulation is elongated, and the associated shower and thunderstorm activity remains disorganized. Some additional development is possible, and a short-lived tropical storm could form while the system moves westward or west-northwestward at 10 to 15 mph across the Cabo VerdeIslands and eastern tropical Atlantic today.
On Saturday, environmental conditions are forecast to become less conducive, and further development appears unlikely after that time. Regardless of development, winds to tropical storm force and areas of heavy rain are likely to continue over portions of the Cabo Verde Islands through tonight.
