Husband of daycare provider arrested, accused of molesting at least 3 children

A Riverside man was arrested by police earlier this month after allegations surfaced that he had sexually abused a 4-year-old girl at the daycare operated out of his home.

Antonio Chavez, 65, was arrested on July 3 after he was accused of molesting the girl while she was attending a licensed family daycare center ran by his wife.

Chavez Family Daycare operates out of the family home on the 18400 block of Blue Sky Street, and has been a licenced daycare provider since 2010.

After the Riverside Police Department received the first complaint, they began investigating and contacting other families whose children attended the daycare center.

Through the investigation, police were able to determine two other children had been allegedly sexually abused by Chavez within the past three years while attending daycare at the home, but the crimes were never disclosed.

Now police fear there may be additional victims who have not yet been contacted. Anyone with additional victim information is urged to contact RPD Detective Victoria Mutuku by email or by calling 951-353-7945.

Chavez has been booked into the Robert Presley Detention Center in downtown Riverside and is being held on $1 million bail.

A complaint against Chavez Family Daycare has been lodged with the state’s licensing body, police added.
