IDOT photo enforcement van monitoring speed in Champaign

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCIA) — The Illinois Department of Transportation has a new vehicle designed to catch speeding drivers at construction zones.

IDOT confirmed the use of their new photo enforcement vans at the I-57/74 interchange in Champaign County. Five vans were launched earlier this to monitor cars and capture anyone speeding in active construction zones.

Officials hope the vans deter speeding in work zones.

“We want to, you know, let people know that they’re speeding as they’re approaching, give them the opportunity for voluntary compliance to tap on the brakes to and to have more time to react to change conditions in general,” Juan Pava, IDOT’s Safety Programs Unit Chief said.
