Inmate found dead in Jackson County Jail

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — An inmate at Jackson County Jail was found dead Friday, Nov. 29. After preliminary investigation, police believe the cause of death to be suicide.

Jackson County Sheriff Correctional Deputies found the 51-year-old man unconscious and with no pulse at approximately 7:17 p.m. Deputies called 911 and began CPR. Medical personnel arrived on the scene and attempted to provide life-saving care. The man was pronounced dead at approximately 7:54 p.m.

The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office reports that the inmate was booked at Jackson County Jail just a week prior on Nov. 22. The man was in custody for assault with intent to do great bodily harm, failure to appear in circuit court, probation violation, possession of methamphetamine and retail fraud.

The Jackson Police Department and Jackson County Medical Examiner are investigating the death and report that the suspect is believed to have committed suicide by asphyxiation. An autopsy is scheduled to determine the exact cause of death.
