PSP: SCI Camp Hill inmate charged with murder in cellmate’s death

CAMP HILL, Pa. (WHTM) — An inmate at the State Correctional Institution at Camp Hill is charged with murder in connection with the death of their cellmate Tuesday, State Police said.

Shaquille Gibson, 30, of York, is charged with first degree murder in the death of fellow inmate Bernard Grover, who State Police said in a news release has an alias of “Kevin Beattie,” 57.

Troopers said Grover appeared to have suffered several injuries and investigated his death as a homicide. It was discovered that the two were cellmates during the homicide, Troopers said.

Results for Grover’s official cause and manner of death are still awaiting an autopsy, State Police said, that will happen at a later date.

Currently, Gibson is still at SCI Camp Hill but he will be transferred to another prison in accordance to Department of Corrections (DOC), the release said.

According to the Pennsylvania DOC, the superintendent of SCI Camp Hill reported Beattie was found unresponsive in his cell earlier Tuesday. Prison staff immediately responded and provided life-saving measures until the Lower Allen EMS arrived and advanced life support measures were continued.

Beattie was pronounced dead at 8:16 a.m.

Pennsylvania Department of Corrections says that Beattie was serving 22-25 years for burglary and had been at SCI Camp Hill since February 2023.
