Investigation into robbery of elderly woman leads to arrest of two brothers in San Bernardino Co.

Authorities in San Bernardino County arrested a man for allegedly robbing a 78-year-old woman from Yucaipa on Friday, and the investigation also led to the arrest of his brother.

According to a release from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department, the victim had parked her car in the 35000 block of Yucaipa Boulevard in Yucaipa after making a withdrawal from a nearby bank. Upon exiting her vehicle, she was approached by a man, later identified as 41-year-old Glenn Hess.

“Hess threatened violent action against her if she did not give him her purse,” SBSD said. “Hess entered the victim’s vehicle and grabbed her purse…the victim tried to stop Hess from taking her purse, but he ripped it away.”

Hess then fled the scene, authorities said, but witnesses who recorded the confrontation provided responding deputies with cell phone video depicting Hess’ vehicle fleeing the area and his license plate number.

Investigators worked quickly to identify Glenn Hess as the suspect, and he was tracked down to his Yucaipa home. Deputies served a search warrant and detained him and his brother Lucas Hess, 42, for further investigation.

“During the search warrant service, deputies recovered some of the victim’s stolen property along with three firearms – one being an illegal assault rifle – and a large amount of ammunition,” deputies stated.

The search also led to investigators discovering that Lucas Hess was on parole and had a felony no-bail parole violation warrant. He was subsequently arrested for the violation, authorities confirmed.

Lucas’ brother Glenn – himself an ex-felon – was arrested for multiple felonies, including elder abuse, being a felon in possession of a firearm and being a felon in possession of ammunition.

They were both booked at the Central Detention Center in San Bernardino. Inmate search records indicate that Lucas was being held on no bail while Glenn was being held on $50,000 bail.
