On Monday the Ironton City School Board announced that Superintendent Joseph Geletka had agreed to resign before the expiration of his current employment contract.

Upon the announcement of his resignation, effective July 31, the board voted on a proposal to make additions to his severance package.

Geletka has accepted the position of superintendent for the Doss School Consolidated Common School District in Doss, Texas.

"Move to grant his request to include in his severance package the payout of the value of one-fourth of his accrued unused, sick leave of 19.13 days in addition to the payout of his accrued, unused vacation leave of 34.92 days," said Rae Ann Witt, Ironton City School Board President.

All but one of the board members voted yes to this proposal, with Jasun Walker voting no.

In the meantime, while the superintendent hunt gets underway an interim superintendent has been provided by the Lawrence County Educational Service Center.

"When we make decisions, we make it based on those kids; that's who I am and it doesn't change anywhere I'm at," said Eric Floyd, Lawrence County ESC superintendent.

Floyd made it a point that his position as the interim superintendent is not permanent.

"This is a temporary thing for me, this isn't a job interview for me. My goal is not to become your superintendent," Floyd said. "My goal is to help manage and support the district and assist in finding a replacement."

Floyd has many years of experience in the field with his first job being employed by the Ironton City School District many years ago.

Floyd said he spent 13 years working for the juvenile prison in Franklin Furnace and another 13 years employed at Rock Hill.

"I appreciate the opportunity to serve Ironton City Schools," Floyd said. "This is a service that is at no charge to the district."
